Music is where I’m most myself.
Hi, I’m Josh. Songwriter, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. I can’t help it.
Music has never just been something I do. It’s my strongest connection to the world and often the way I understand myself best.
I’ve never been able to separate music from feeling. To me, they’ve always been the same thing.
Music is pretty much always running in the background of my life. When I walk, I become the rhythm of my steps. When I’m doing something, there’s often a melody playing inside me that came out of nowhere but somehow describes exactly how I’m doing what I’m doing. I can’t really switch it off, and honestly, I wouldn’t want to.
I can be in a conversation looking completely attentive while actually being fascinated by the sound of the wind moving through the leaves above me. And I forget surprisingly often what I was about to do because a new melody suddenly gets stuck in my head.
New melodies keep appearing inside me. Serious earworms, except they don’t come from somewhere outside. They’re just suddenly there. Sometimes an idea pulls me in completely and won’t let go.
People. Memories. Changes. Feelings. Questions that stay with me and eventually find their way into sound.
Then I look for the melody, the line or the sound that captures exactly what didn’t have a form before.
That’s exactly why I can’t stop making music.
feeling.
Feeling comes first.
I love the craft. Harmony, melody, arrangement, production, sound. I can lose myself in all of it for hours.
But none of it really means much to me unless something can be felt at the end of it.
For me, the magic starts when you stop noticing the technique and simply realise that something has moved you.
I don’t want a song to tell you what to feel. I want it to find something in you that might already have been there for a long time.
When that happens, I honestly don’t care how complicated the road there was.
INTUITION.
I don’t want to give people answers.
For me, songwriting means feeling, digging deep, observing, translating and walking alongside.
I notice something. In myself, in another person, somewhere in the real world or in one I’ve just imagined. Then I try to understand what’s actually happening and what form it needs.
Sometimes it becomes a line. Sometimes a melody. Sometimes just a sound that carries exactly that feeling.
I don’t want to turn it into a finished thought that someone is simply supposed to take on. I want to leave enough room for you to bring your own story into it and find something of yourself there.
Your own answers.
When you recognise yourself in something that originally came from me, that’s where this special kind of connection happens for me.
I don’t know you. But somehow, this song does.
CRAFT.
Instinct matters. But so does knowing how to actually build something.
I’ve experienced music from quite a few different angles. As a songwriter, producer, performer and multi-instrumentalist.
I studied Pop Music Design at Popakademie Baden-Württemberg and have been working professionally with music since 2008. On stage, as a coach, in studios and behind mixing desks.
All of that has given me craft, language and perspective. Knowing why something works helps me just as much today as my first instinct does.
But in the end, technique is always just a means to an end for me.
I want to get closer to the feeling without breaking it along the way.
Tools.
We’re living through a pretty exciting time.
Music has always changed along with its tools. New instruments, studio technology, synthesizers, samplers and later computers didn’t just change how music was made. They made sounds and entire styles of music possible that simply hadn’t existed before.
And right now, a lot is changing again.
I’ve always had far more ideas than time and ways to bring them to life. The next melody, the next song or a completely different musical world could already be showing up in my head while I was still trying to finish the one before it. Quite a lot used to pile up.
That’s why some of the possibilities opening up through AI genuinely feel a little like a sense of freedom to me. Suddenly I can try ideas out much faster, make them audible and find out where they might lead.
That doesn’t replace instruments, songwriting, production or the craft behind any of it. It simply gives me more ways to keep up with all the ideas that were already there.
Depending on what an idea needs, I work with piano, synthesizers, acoustic and electric guitars, drums, percussion, bass and voice. In the studio, that expands into recording, production, sound design, sampling, virtual instruments and, increasingly, AI tools as well.
I’m not especially interested in whether something is old or new, analogue or digital.
What matters to me is whether it gets me closer to the idea in my head and the feeling I’m looking for.

Sometimes the idea doesn’t start with me.
When I write for a film, a creator, a brand or another project, I don’t start by bringing my own story into it. I try to understand the world that’s already there.
What should the music make you feel? What does the story need? What does that world feel like? And what kind of sound belongs there?
That changes my role a little. But not my approach.
Here too, it’s about listening closely, digging deep and finding something that may not have had a musical form yet.
Not in genre.
I don’t want to simply put music on top of a project. I want to find a sound that feels like it was always meant to be part of it.
